丸亀城下町を楽しむ

フィールドミュージアム丸亀とは

丸亀城下町は、戦災を受けることなく築城時の町割りをそのままに約400年の歴史を刻むまちです。ここには様々な時代の暮らしの営みが積み重なり生まれた、厚みのあるまちの姿を見ることができます。このような歴史の痕跡で構成された丸亀城下町を一つの博物館と見立てて「フィールドミュージアム丸亀」と呼ぶことにしました。

体験を通じてまちを知り、興味を深め、まちの再生につなげるよう、まちを読むことの楽しさや面白さを知っていただける企画を提案し運営します。

Field Museum Marugame

Marugame Castle Town is a city with 400 years of history engraved into it. Since it wasn’t damaged by war, the town layout hasn’t changed since the original castle fortifications were built. It’s a place where you can see the appearance of a culturally rich town and the accumulation of different living styles from over the ages.
Since Marugame Castle Town is made from traces of history, we decided that the town itself should be labelled a museum, and named it “Field Museum Marugame”. We will transform Marugame Castle Town into a field museum, a location for experiences, to get to know the town, to deepen interest in it, and lead to the revitalization of the town. We will reorganize information on Marugame Castle Town and it’s historic buildings and propose and operate a plan that will help people understand and enjoy the fun of reading the deep layers of the town.

断面マチヤ・プロジェクト

断面マチヤ・プロジェクトとは

フィールドミュージアム丸亀の企画第一弾として、断面マチヤ・プロジェクトを開催します。
断面マチヤ・プロジェクトは、グラフィックスなど平面的表現により「断面マチヤ」をシンボライズすることや、空き地との関係性を遊びの感性を持って表現することで、まちへの親しみを抱く機会にしようとするものです。2018年7月から断面マチヤをモチーフとした作品を広く募集、2018年12月、集まった作品を展示しトーク交流会を開催しました。

Cross Section Machiya Project

The first project organised by Field Museum Marugame will be the “Cross Section Machiya Project”. Using the symbolic “cross section Machiya” that are located throughout the town next to vacant plots of land (after removal of the adjoining house), we will use 2D artworks and graphics to create an opportunity for people to become familiar with the town in a playful way. There will be an open application for artworks that employ the motif of these Machiya. We will exhibit these works, and display them on the website, as well as holding meetups and discussions on the topic as a fun way to exchange ideas about Marugame Castle Town.

「断面マチヤ」とは

城下町の町家の多くは空き家となり、取り壊され、空き地になりつつあります。空き地から見える建物の壁面には、そこにあった町家のカタチ、建てられた時代の木造技術の規範性などを知ることができます。ここには丸亀城下町が完成した江戸期から現在に至る「まちの形成過程や暮らしの営み」が表出し、丸亀のまちの特長を読み取ることができるのです。
空き地が生まれたことで見ることができるようになった、こんな町家のカタチを「断面マチヤ」と名付けました。空き地と断面マチヤは一対のものであり、まちの成り立ちを楽しく読み解くことができる絶好の機会として存在しています。

Application process for the Cross Section Machiya Project

We are looking for work that employ the motif of the cross section Machiya of Marugame (see pictures on our website of some of the locations). Where a Machiya has been demolished, there is now a vacant plot of land in its place. On the wall of the building that the Machiya used to adjoin to, there are traces of the Machiya. This trace is what we are referring to as the “cross section”. From the remaining cross section, you can see evidence of the wood construction technology employed at the time of building. The process of city development and living styles from the Edo Period (when Marugame Castle Town was completed) to the present are on display. Through this you can read the features of the city of Marugame. The Cross Section Machiya Project is an attempt to draw attention the form of the townhouses which is now visible due to the creation of the vacant land.

断面から見えるもの

「飾らない暮らしのカタチ」
見られるようにつくられた「正面」や「側面」ではなく、見られることを想定してしていない「断面」からは、飾らない暮らしのカタチが見えます。
「丸亀城下町の変化の過程」
築城時の町割りはそのままに、江戸後期から現代までに造られた建造物など、様々な時代の痕跡が積み重なった丸亀城下町の特長を知ることができます。
「今しか見ることができない」
今後、隣同士が壁面を接して家を建てることはないでしょう。町家の解体が進む中、町家断面は今しか見ることはできないものです。
「断面マチヤからはじめる」
解体と空き地の出現で生まれた断面マチヤは、丸亀城下町のおもしろさを紐解くスタートラインとなり、丸亀城下町の価値や可能性を考える機会になります。
